So last blog I talked about how much I love Enchanted. And while doing that blog, I was looking up the actors, and thought to myself "man, the actor that plays Robert is so good! I wonder if he's been in much else..." And that's when I discovered that he was in a little show called Grey's Anatomy, as someone referred to lovingly as "McDreamy." Wow, I'm impressed they were able to get Robert from Enchanted on there. And he was in Can't Buy Me Love? That was a classic movie and I'm surprised when rewatching it I never noticed...

But since I thoroughly enjoyed re-watching the little gem that is Enchanted, I was pretty hyped for the new sequel, Disenchanted. And overall, I thought it was decent, but unfortunately it did have the same magic for me that the original one has....

On the one hand, the one I loved seeing more of these characters I love. It was nice to see Robelle still going strong and that Morgan called Giselle "Mom." I didn't realize how much that detail would touch my heart. Plus seeing more of Prince Edward's craziness is always fun. And the aesthetics of this movie was on par with the first one. I didn't realize how much I missed 2D animation for movies until seeing the scenes from this one. And while 3D animation is stunning, there remains a certain charm in 2D.

On the other hand, the main novelty of the first movie was that a person used to fairy tale land was getting used to the real world, and while the final act conflict was fairy tale based, it was still in the real world, and honestly the other more pressing conflict was Giselle accepting that her place wasn't in Andalasia but in New York with the grumpy lawyer. I suppose the second movie continued to focus on the coflict of Giselle fitting in, but it still felt like it was missing something that the first one had. There were also a lot of small threads I thought the movie would flesh out, like Morgan and the son of "the queen" of their suburban town. Honestly I think the conflict was interesting, but it was kind of a shame that Robert wasn't really in it as much. Even just to show their strong relationship a bit more. What might have been interesting is if when Giselle wished for a fairy tale life, they all turned 2D animated. Also, the songs were decent but unfortunately I didn't find them as catchy as the first one.

But all in all, I liked the second movie. I am a sucker for a happy ending in movies. I also think that this will resonate with the younger crowd for sure, without being a little to infantile. Stay happy, healthy and safe my Jellybeans! Catch you on the flip.
